Set up your own wake word in Home Assistant

Eight short steps, from picking a phrase to saying it to Assist. Each step tells you exactly what to click.

Check what you need

Your wake word is detected by the openWakeWord add-on, next to Assist. Before you start, make sure you have:

Home Assistant 2024.1 or newer
A voice assistant (Assist) set up, with a speech-to-text and text-to-speech engine
A device with a microphone that talks to Assist, such as a voice satellite
Access to the Home Assistant file system (we use the Samba add-on below)

Menu namesHome Assistant renames menus now and then. If a name looks slightly different on your version, look for the closest match.
